I just read a blog which poses the paradox (and I'll put it as a question): Could it be that if you do well in writing in a supposedly private medium (blog), you'll eventually draw enough attention so as to limit your subject matter and/or shut you down? That's a decidedly chilling prospect, and I certainly hope that the lady blogger I refer to doesn't get chilled; she's really good.

On the other hand... I'm brand new (see the way I handle this blog!) to this business, so I have the real luxury of operating in anonymity and obscurity (no comments so far!).

It's kind of funny, paradoxical thing, I have not/not told anyone close to me in any way about this blog, because I sure as hell don't want them to know about it, but I feel kind of lonely because of.... the same lack of comments. Just can't make myself happy, huh?

I am curious (as it do we get to read more background stuff about you??

Umm, you know, I've got mixed feelings about more background stuff on me. I guess that comes from my professional background where the rule of thumb was, the less said the better, and now, ironically, my perception of the blog world ethos, where one rarely, if ever, sees the face of bloggers, or learns much about what people really do for a living, where they live, etc.

That said, I'll tell you that I'm an American from California who hasn't lived in the States in almost 30 years because of my career, which brought me here to Quito, and from which I retired last summer. I've gone through two marriages and have three kids, 29, 19, and 16 (2 girls and the last, a boy). I've posted a picture of the 19 year old, and the others will appear in future postings; they're all wonderful people, I'm happy to say, and I'm proud of them all.

Reading a lot of different blogs, I get the impression I'm out at the end of the bell curve in terms of who does them. I'm a 59 year old male who decided to do this based on blogs that one of my daughters and my son started. I knew nothing of the blog world until they introduced me to it about 18 months ago.

I guess you could say that I decided to do this as sort of a self-therapy thing (sounds sappy, I know) after ending a marriage and a career. I'd never been much of a letter writer (at least not personal stuff), but now, I've started writing fairly long letters to my children, and recently, as you can see, the blog.
I think all of this is part of the changes I mention above.

My guess is, that assuming I stick with this, you'll hear more about my background over time - and hopefully I'll get better and doing all the photo and side bar bells and whistles the rest of you all do!

More later, MG, and sorry that your short question elicited such a long response, T
